interesting scenes yesterday in oklahoma city and amarillo who got hit by -- anywhere between two and four inches of snow. snowed a little bit in northern arkansas and southern missouri. that's about it. this is the little storm that's going to track into d.c. with rain and tail end of a little bit of snow. a period of snow for philadelphia to new york city. about 24 hours from now. so let me show you a closer view here. the rainy weather exiting the southeast coastline. the storm itself, again, it's a very weak storm. now located near memphis and headed for nashville. cold rain on the north side of it. maybe just cold in areas like louisville today to get a sloshy inch, maybe on the grassy surfaces. you have to get a rain and snow mix. the computers are not impressed with the storm. the northern edge of it late tonight from midnight to 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. will get a little coating here, an inch to three inches from philadelphia to new york city and long island and coastal areas of rhode island and on cape cod. otherwise today, i don't think the airports will be too bad this morning. this af

at the impact from hard-hit kansas city. >> reporter: this time-lapse video shows kansas city being swallowed by the snow. white-out conditions starting what would be a long, messy day across the midwest. >> it's crazy. i wasn't expecting this today. maybe around christmas, but not now. >> reporter: the harsh winds and heavy snow certainly no gift for those forced to deal with with brutal conditions. >> it's a terrible day for me, buddy. >> reporter: terrible for just about everyone. snow in many places falling at more than two inches an hour, pile manager up too fast for shovels or plows to keep up. driving was next to impossible, even for some of the street crews. parts of i-70 were shut down because of the weather, and so were airports across the region. >> i first walked in, i saw the line here and i said, this cannot be good. >> reporter: deicing quickly gave way to hundreds of canceled flights, travelers stranded, but this massive winter system still on the move. >> this storm is not done. as we head towards the end of the week and the weekend, we could see another substantial snow in n

for connecticut and massachusetts. a little less for new york city. widespread 6 to 10 over northern new england. the european computer which has been on this storm has been pinpointing it all along. much higher with the snowfall totals. again, upwards of 20 inches, even new york city possibly 11 inches. here's my forecast for the storm. this is my first estimate. i'll tweak this as needed. new york city, four to eight. here is that one to two foot line anywhere in eastern mass. there is going to be to be somewhere there will be banding and lightning and thunder during snowfall. again, we could see two feet in some spots. it's going to be a rough friday night and saturday morning. >> thank you, bill. >>> the ten most disliked athletes in america. >>> an outrage over some are calling a racist frat party at duke university. >>> plus, the thrill of victory. and the agony of racing up 1576 steps of the empire state building. of the mill shootings that ravage cities every day. gun violence is gun violence. hideya pendleton was a high school student. she played volleyball. she performed with her school's marching band at president obama's marching band last month. that was january 21st. on january 29th, she and friends caught cover because of rain. it was only a mile from barack and michelle's home in chicago. a person with a gun approached the group and started shooting. hideya pendleton was not the shooter's target, however. on saturday in chicago, there will be a funeral service for hideya pendleton. the white house let it be known to be that first lady michelle obama will be at the funeral, which will make this even more of a national scale tragedy than it already is. city, the community came together for an early birthday celebration. ethan turns 6 on wednesday. kirk gregory, nbc news. >>> senate democrats on a retreat in maryland will get a visit from the president today to rally support for his second term budget including a request to delay spending cuts that kick in on march 1st. tracie potts has reaction from republicans and the latest nonpartisan budget forecast. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the president says in order to delay the $85 billion in cuts coming at the end of this month, congress needs to pass yet another temporary fix while they continue working on a permanent budget. the focus for republicans is more spending cuts. that is likely where we expect to see a clash at some point. they want to see even deeper cuts than we've already seen. house speaker john boehner says it's the only way to fix our jobs problem in this country. meantime, the nonpartisan congressional budget office is predicting high unemployment continued through 2014 but, this is a big but, a lower deficit, the smallest since president obama's been in o

storm in the boston area. where temperatures are hovering just below freezing. in new york city, it's 32 degrees right now. and even though we will see some light snow in the new york city area at some point this morning, it will change over to rain and most of the accumulating snow in new york itself will occur overnight. you can see blizzard warnings post the from boston right back into hartford, connecticut, and across long island as well. eastern long island is an area we could end up with 12 to 18 inches of snow. boston is the jackpot. and it is certainly not out of the question to pick up 24 to 30 inches of snow. the only saving grace is that it's friday and this is occurring over the weekend. so not as many people on the roads. >> a little bit of good news. we'll check back in with you later. >>> turning to california where a massive manhunt has the los angeles area on virtual lockdown. lapd putting extra security at their headquarters because the suspect used to be one of their own. disfor dornor is wanted in multiple shootings across southern california. the 33-year-old says he'
